Photo Exhibit Captures City’s Youth Boxing Program

The department will host an art exhibit featuring the photographs of select youth from the Battery Park Community Center, who were chosen to creatively capture photos of members of the Richmond Cobras, the department’s youth boxing team. The exhibit, titled “The Sweet Science: Boxing Through the Lens of a Child,” will open with a reception on Friday, November 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Spotlight Gallery, which is located within the department’s Pine Camp Arts and Community Center at 4901 Old Brook Road.
The department’s Boxing Program, under the tutelage of Jerry Royster, provides training and competitive opportunities for youth ages 8 and older. Several of the program’s boxers have become members of the U.S. Amateur Boxing Federation, the Junior Olympics and the Golden Gloves programs.
The free exhibit is open to the public and will be on display through January 18, 2013 in Pine Camp’s Spotlight Gallery. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
